Niki Bender is currently the Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Galveston, Texas. She is an incident responder, and trainer with fourteen years of public-sector, non-governmental, and private-sector experience responding to natural and man-made disasters, oil spills, hazardous materials releases, mass care and shelter events, and national special security events.
She serves as a board member for the Emergency Management Association of Texas and as a safety committeeman for the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. She formerly served as the secretary/treasurer for the Galveston County (Texas) Local Emergency Planning Committee.
She is an active member of the International Association of Emergency Managers, the Emergency Management Association of Texas, San Jacinto All-Hazards Incident Management Team (AHIMT), Texas Search and Rescue (TEXSAR), and Team Rubicon.
She has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston – Honors College and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of North Texas with a specialization in emergency management. She is a Master Continuity Practitioner, AHIMT Planning Section Chief, Master Peace Officer, and Fire/Arson Investigator.
